Perry's efforts to achieve mainstream fame were disastrous. Before new material was released, two record labels signed, then removed Perry. Capitol Records released Perry's Ur So Gay EP in 2007, which received modest interest for its cheerfully humorous track. I Kissed a Girl - an ode of sexual curiosity - was released several months after. It featured a hard electro-pop style and an assertive stance. It was a controversial song, as critics criticized the song for promoting relationships between gay men and other charged that the song depicted a racy scene that enticed men's desires for sexuality in women. I Kissed a Girl's combination of excitement, a polished tune and an enthralling chorus made to make it a top ten song in a variety of countries. It led to The album, of the same name of the Boys (2007) selling well. Hot N Cold was a hit in America, and the second track on the album Hot N Cold with its sharp tongued bouncy beat also was a hit.
