Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was promoted to chief congressional correspondent by 1988. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell is a former panelist and host of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988, during Ronald Reagan's two terms as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable news stories throughout time, including budget reform, tax reform, and the Iran Contra scandal. She travelled extensively along with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
